Could anyone explain to me how to do this question

Use the discriminant (X^2) + 2 - y(x - 1) to show that the range of ((X^2) + 2)/(x - 1) is equal to (- ∞, 2 - 2*((3)^(1/2)))) U (2 + 2*((3)^(1/2)))), ∞)

note

2 - 2*((3)^(1/2)))) = 2 - the square root of 3

U = union
