If i could do anything in this world then i would love to work in either energy/sustainability (working on things like fusion) or in medicine (new diagnostic and treatment methods) applying physics on the cutting edge to help people. However the more i look around the less i see opportunities to do that here in Australia. It looks like most of the research opportunities are based around biological sciences and most physicists turn to non-physics fields as a result.

I guess what i'm asking is, are there any places other than academia that let you work in that sort of environment or can i expect to have to relocate?

Their work in physics is more along the lines of astrophysics with some engineering. Unless i missed something of course

i wrote it above :L energy/sustainability (most likely through fusion) and medicine (diagnostic imaging and treatment)
