Who here will be getting a major in advanced mathematics at uni (majoring in either pure/applied or statistics or what ever). If not, what will you get?

How are people meant to know if they will graduate or not, before they even start uni?

I was just wondering if anyone was going to start that in the 1st year.

I was doing it at ANU.

It sucked. It was fairly boring and not very similar to HSC maths... too abstract? Eh maybe if you take the applied or statistics stream it'll be alright.

I think most people would prefer to apply their maths. Do it with physics, economics, biology, computer science, or something. It'll probably be more fun and meaningful that way.

just because you start the 1st year doesn't mean that you will graduate.

I, personally, prefer pure, it, to me, is elegant. Its abstract. I will be doing a pure. Hopefully getting into Mathematical Physics some time down to track.

Sure man, but pure maths in high school is more like applied maths at uni.

I was a massive fan of 'pure' maths in the HSC, but much prefered applied maths and statistics at uni.
