Thanks Nusrat ,

I do modern history.

Well I thought of doing:

A) The changing attitudes to Mao Ze Dong over three generations

B) How the attitude to Jean Paul Marat changed with Jaques Louis David's painting, "The death of Marat"

C) Something on the soical commentary behind "The Cruiciable."

d) How attitudes towards history have been manipulated by text books...What has been taught to childeren..

Yeah, my teacher doesn't approve and she wants me to do something REALLY BORING (something that I know I won't skick at)

Err...I think i posted this in the wrong page, SORRY!

look the reason is b/c the stuff on ur topics either overlap with other courses or some of info is hard to gather.......since ur doing modern here r some ideas......
1. misconceptions about the history of the holocaust
2. the truth contained in the writing of history surrounding:
communism, capitalism, socialism, totalitarianism
3. The impact of Big Brother(George Orwell's 1984)

theres a huge scope....keep thinking;)

Ur option d was what I did for my assignment. U gotta be careful with that one in your essays, though. That actually looks like the best option out of ur options in my opinion.

Oooh thanks for your suggestions!

I especially like the impact of George Orwell's Big Brother! Well done...

My friend is doing the Holocaust Idea.

Archman, thats what did you area of the topic did you focus your case study on?
I was thinking of the way that the French children were taught about how "Germany had robbed them of Alsace and Lorraine"..

If I sound a little bit clueless about this whole case study it is because we have only just started talking about it in class. :)

I did a study of the Pacific War and how it's being taught to kids in textbooks. The results are interesting to say the least...

i was like you for a whole month and a bit- perhaps more.

my ext class was neither on a modern slant or ancient.

so we all had different options. they were really fab too.

if your worried about your choice being too close to the syllabus- email the HTA like I did.

I did it on Palestinian refugees and political impact on the "new historians" writing from the Israeli side- and its interpretations by the two sides. and I thought it was too close to the sllyabus.

I emailed the HTA and asked and the reply was by all means do it- because I was not studyin Arab-Israel option at school for modern history, it was something the syllabus didnt look at- because I was taking another view- looking at political impact on writing of history and I seemd to be enthused by it.

they sure help!

goodluck with it!

doing a question on historiography is the way to score highly....

what i mean is do a question on why something is being written in the way that it is rather than a question like what extent such and such happened and then use historiography to back it up. You can do a what extent question, I did but it cost me getting 40/40 only got 39/40 because really i understand NOW that the course is about history writting rather than what has happened like the 2unit course is about

My teacher dictated what we did for our case study, because I did it by distance ed.

We only had 2 courses he would be willing to teach, Tacitus and the Julio-Claudians, and The Historicity of Jesus Christ. I would have preferred to do the latter as there is A TON of info on it, and the debates are very intense.

i agree that including historiography is the way to go. mine was pretty much a historiographical question and i felt like i had to put a lot less effort into it than most ppl in the course yet i managed to get 40/40 because it shows you have an understanding of what hist x is about.
i did the concept of the 'woman behind the man' eg eva peron, marie antoinette etc and how influential women have been depicted by historians over time sorta thing
word of advice for your friend, the holocaust is a very large and daunting area. a lot of ppl who did that this year went nuts with all the info out there.
it's easier if you do something narrow but not too narrow if you know what i mean. and look at interpretations etc rather than a narrative approach

I also do history extension and i really wanna do my case study along the lines of ancient witchcraft and my teacher wants me to narrow it down to a few questions????

Does anyone know a really good sector in witch craft over the years?
