Bombed out immensely (50-70%) in trial exams, ranking isn't very impressing either but I am very confident in the externals.

Is there still hope of a 85+ ATAR?

School rank is top 30 if that matters.

Those marks at a top 30 school are worth 90+ at an average one, easily._.

Depends on your rank. However, since you are at a top 30 school, your cohort should pull you up.

Btw, the trials were the CSSA ones, not school made. Also I'd say ranks are in the bottom third except for maths and english, top 15% of the cohort.

It really depends on how you did in terms of rankings to be honest.

I skim read the thread and missed that post. You should be fine for 85+ I reckon.
So, I'm ranked in the bottom third for 3/5 subjects, I flunked my cssa trials (50-70%), which were weighed 30% each, and I'm basically sitting on 65% raw assessment mark for each subject, but the fact that I go to a top 30 school makes up for all that and I should be okay for an ATAR above 85 as long as I get above 90 in the externals for my subjects?

It's hard to say definitively, because there are so many factors to consider. However, given that you go to a top 30 school, I think your ranks are enough for 85+.

Don't worry about your internal rankings/marks too much because there's nothing you can do about that now. Just focus on trying your absolute best for the actual HSC exams, because that is something you can change the outcome of.
