right now I'm doing 12 units and English is the worst by far. I'm not planning to drop any subjects so if I achieve better in the other 10 units, will english count towards my atar?

English always counts to your ATAR. The rule is that your two best English units must count. Therefore, yes, English does matter (a lot).

Yes English does matter, in fact you need to focus on English even more because it will always be included in your ATAR-in your place, I would make English a priority subject-you definitely CANNOT AFFORD to ignore it without it detrimentally affecting your results.
