Is it true that your internal assessment mark can be scaled up or down depending on your raw external examination mark?

Or are these things just completely separate?

Nope, it is "scaled" up or down depending on the cohort (including you)'s external exam marks relative to their internal marks. Your own exam mark plays only a part in it.

(But your own exam mark plays a full part in being 50/50 of your HSC mark).
