advanced courses and other q's (1 Viewer)

i was looking through the UAC book and there are advanced courses for arts, science and liberal studies. how are they different to the normal ones? for liberal studies, it just says, "Designed for... students of high academic ability... opportunity to undertake more challenging..."
does that mean you attend different lectures?

on the topic of liberal studies.. liberal studies(international)- why do you need to maintain credit average... does the uni provide some sort of financial support or is it just a random course requirement?

and can you go on exchange even if it's not a part of the course you're doing?

what do you mean other studies? the uac book doesn't really give much detail. for the major studies it just says: refer to (...) so i figured you basically study the same things.

by a "more challenging program... and specialist units of study", what does it mean? don't the normal courses offer in-depth study?

i mean More things to study.. same things but say More in depth and more topics/harder topics. yeh sorry not much help 0_O..

i got a Q about commerce liberal studies

the list of majors sounds like a discount version of whats available for com/arts

so why is the uai req. higher?

i guess, you have 2 majors and you also do science units. i find it more appealing than arts/commerce actually.

its all supply and demand
there arent many ppl doing commerce liberal studies but its a much more flexible degree

many people find that doing a commerce degree without compulsorary comm subjects like accounting and business information systems (which is learning how to program in VB) to be very appealing...

yes! i don't want to do a lot of the first year compulsory stuff.
and it's good that i can also do arts and science. except sydney doesn't offer international business as a major.

on liberal studies (internationa) I think you have to maintain a credit average on that because you have to "represent the uni" overseas. They don't give you money for that, you have to make your own way there, pay your own airfares and accomodation. You don't have to pay tutition fees of the overseas uni though.

The advanced can mean anything from having additional subjects that you can do, to being able to do second year subjects/starting your major in first year. Its also a nice way of being able to tell people you're a "smart" arts student not a "i couldnt think of anything else that my uai was high enough for" arts student

Accounting/finance/economics can be majors within a commerce degree. "better" is subjective...Some people may prefer the life of a diplomat that they achieved from an economics degree, while others may want to be an investment banker/stock broker with finance/accounting majors...My economics lecturer used to do financial analysis of the economy for Deutsche...You can pretty much do anything with any of them


*disclaimer...I'm doing commerce and want to major in finance/accounting...so I tend to think they're the best

The advanced units of study for science at USYD involved projects that were far more interesting than those given to students in the 'normal' stream.

In finding a job, Accounting, without at doubt...u'll always have a job wen u graduate, but how good that job is...well that depends

Economics tends to be better paid and more rewarding, but harder to get a graduate job first off (unless u graduate with First Class Honours and subsequently get accepted to work as a graduate Economist at the RBA)
