Whats UNSW like? Because its the Uiversity i've always wanted to get into, but i dont know much about it. WHats the "atmosphere" like? Is it better than other uni's? And what are the law or commerce courses like?

The first part of your question is subjective. Go and check it out at Open Day whenever that is. I'm sure you'll get a feel for the atmosphere then as well as getting any queries you have answered.
No idea about the law/commerce courses.

i cant comment on other unis or commerce and law..but i very much like the 'atmosphere', (especially at 6-7pm, i challenge u to find a better looking uni) on breaks if we have >1h we play soccer or touch football. There are heaps of places to sit down (inside and outside) with a table so u can eat/study or relax between lectures however inside the actual uni, the lectures and work load is damn hard...at least for me.

my choice for going unsw was
1. Has grass and its very open, plenty of places to play sports, socialise..
2. Its like 15 min away from central station, and while most people see this as a bad thing, i think its better cause the air seems nice and clean and the whole place seems calm, i would never wanna eat at or around that crowded dirty central station or that street going up to uts...
3. again not sure about other unis, but people here seem fully nice, i havent seen a fight yet and i almost fainted when i saw people actually line up for busses. (crazy change from my high school).

but yeh what RCMasterAA said is true, u really have to come yourself and experience the atmosphere yourself to see how you like it.

I've always loved UNSW. It has a great reputation academically, the Kensington campus is beautiful and it's near Coogee beach! :D

Seriously, I don't know what drew me to it. UNSW has a really nice friendly social atmosphere. Even though I didn't know many people doing my course and subjects, it was easy to get around, talk to people and make friends. A lot of friends from other schools came to, so I guess I'd say uni is really social.

Academically, I really enjoy uni. I chose subjects which, although they sh*t me sometimes, challenge me and are on the whole enjoyable. Although some lecturers are boring, most of them are cool on the whole. Tutes are really good too, especially for Japanese.

But yeah, it's all subjective. Come check us out at Open Day if you're interested!

For Commerce and Law I can't say much, but quite a few Comm/Law and Comm people post here so I'm sure you can get a good opinion. But apparantly Comm is only about 14 hrs a week and Comm/Law is about 18. Correct me if I'm wrong.

comm law is a bludge
most commerce lectures involve sleep or not turning up at all
law is hard if you care about your grades
roundhouse = win

Those Basser steps are awesome for exercise.

First time at uni, walking up those steps was a killer, I could feel my leg muscles in pain getting up there.

Now I don't get that anymore, it's really good exercise :D

I took a huge jump from that brick wall in the picture to get down to the ground faster :D It was on a Sunday where no one was there.

I should probably add a little addendum at the bottom too.
NB: this is only 'part one' of the uni walk stairs. There are two other parts...

I think being built on a hill adds to the atmosphere of the uni though. When you first get to the top of the main stairs just before The Scientia and look down it's like, wow.

UNSW has one of the best atmosphere's out of Sydney Universities, it's a nice open campus with lots of lawns and plenty of modern buildings. It has a very large student population with the highest percentage of international students in Australia (whether this is a good or bad thing I don't know). One annoying thing about the UNSW campus is it is buit on a massive slope which means travelling up many stairs to switch between lower and upper campus. You will encounter this is you are doing Commerce/Law. Advantage of UNSW is that it is away from the city, meaning a quieter, cleaner environment (although it is close to the airport). Disadvantage of UNSW for many is the travel as it takes significant time to travel between central station and uni.

The Commerce and Law faculties at UNSW are very good. The Commerce faculty, depending on what you are doing, is one of the best faculties in Australia. Law is also very good although there are probably a few better law faculties in Australia - Sydney, Melbourne, ANU, Monash:rolleyes:. The combinded Commerce/Law degree is a very competitive qualification and one of the best in Australia.

now there is a way to skip 1/2 the amount of stairs, by going into the elec building, getting on an elevator, then going straight through the building and come out where u only have some 25 stairs till CLB.

I always thought that the wait time for the lift would be a disadvantage?

it ends up the same time as someone walking up the main walkway, but last time we did this the lift went 1/2 metre too deep on the ground floor, i dont think that elevator works right anymore...

Last year in year 11 i went to the Open Day at UNSW and i had to keep going up and down the stairs.. many times. :( What other courses do you all do and are they good? Because i really have no idea of what i want to do. :S

I want to go to UNSW because of the racecourse. :D
