Hey I'm studying mechatronic engineering, and I wanted to know how the first year electives work. The elective MMAN1300 is a core subject for mechatronic engineering; so does that mean I have to pick it as an elective or does it mean that I can't pick it as an elective until second year. Also elec1112 is part of the mechatronic stream, and the elective elec1111 says that elec1112 is an exclusion. Does that mean that I can't pick elec1111, or that if I do pick it I don't have to do elec1112?

All mech related program will need to do MMAN2300, so it's best to get it sorted 1st year and pick it. Pretty sure you can pick it first year or second year but if you pick it 2nd year you might have to get creative with the program plan. As with elec1111 and elec1112, think it means if you do elec1111 you won't/can't do elec1112 as they're almost similar enough but best check this with the school office and make sure you're not screwing yourself over by going for elec1111 instead of 1112

No you CANNOT do elec1111 or mman1300 as electives since they are core

Google 1st year UNSW engineering electives and pick 2 that aren't core to the program
