well hi i want to do a commerce course because i want to be a chartered accountant after I leave uni. But teh problem is i think the uai cut off is about 92... i'll try hard this year but what if i don't get 92... it's rather difficult! What if I get like 80/85? Any chance I can still do the course besides paying up front because I can't afford to!!!

You can apply for special consideration under grounds such as a death in the immediate family, disruption to study, psychological problems...but having a burning desire to do a course isn't enough :).

Paying up front is the most reliable way - or you could just go to a uni with a lower UAI cut-off.

also, what u CAN do i to get into a course which is quite similar and has quite a lot of electives (2 to 3) in the first yr. the best that'd prolly suit u is comp sci which i think has 3 electives. for these electives, u can choose ur commerce core subjects n then apply for a transfer after first yr. for that though, u need to do really well in ur first yr subjects.
but as kini mini mentioned, u can always go to another uni with a lower uai cut off n then try get here after first yr.

ps : the cut off for commerce is not 92, its around 95 ...

but i heard like if u do really really well in one of ur subjects during ur HSC (say in this case...business studies or economic), they will probably reconsider this and may take ur applications...

dunno if its true or not

wasnt the cutoff 95 for last year?

i'd bet it would go up this time..

have you considered other universities?
any of them that run accounting majors will let you become a chartered accountant

yeah at UNSW it was 95.50
Economics was 93.15, and u still can do an Accounting major with that degree

Macquarie has a specialised BCommerce(Accounting) degree which was about 89 last yr(?)

u can do Arts here (UNSW) and do all commerce related subjects, then try and transfer after first yr

Is doesn't really matter about your UAI because transfering isn't hard (well, at Macquarie its a piece of cake to transfer - even into Actuarial - although surviving is another matter) :)

The B Science at UNSW is also similar to the B Arts. just choose a major with few courses and u free up about 2-3 electives to fill up with commerce courses or other ones.
