No, you're allowed 3 UNITS, not 3 gen eds. You are also only allowed a maximum of 6uoc from any single faculty, other than your authority faculty.

http://www.publications.unsw.edu.au/handbooks 2005/UG Web PDFs/General Education.pdf
Students may undertake a maximum of three units of credit from approved
General Education courses within the faculty which is the program
authority for the program in which that student is enrolled.* Further
General Education courses may be drawn from any other faculties with
a maximum of six units of credit to be drawn from any one faculty, other
than the faculty that has the authority for the program in which the
student is enrolled.

Different faculties might make their own rules so those rules in the handbook might not apply for everyone.

Thanks for that.
I also assume that the entry requirements into postgrad is *just* a degree from unsw or another uni ?

Depends on the degree, research masters look upon upper class honours graduates and those with high averages highly. Coursework masters usually require your standard bachelor degree from anywhere (but some require bachelor degree in that specific field - check the handbooks)
