I looked in the UAC guide, but didn't find this course.

Does anyone know what the 2003 cutoff was?

it's 'expected' to be available in 2005
so if ur wan 2 enroll in dat now, enroll to software engineering for the time being, then in ur 3rd year u can transfer to software engineering/commerce.

btw u need a credit average by the 3rd yr to do the combined degree.

for more details go to: http://www.cse.unsw.edu.au/seng/

thats not exactly true .... its "confirmed" to be available from middle of next yr (mid 2004). these are the exact words of the dean of engineering, whom i met sometime in may ...
infact, the program has also been formally recognised. the program code is 3653. if u see the student handbook, the course details for "theory of stats" says that math 1b is not a prereq for those students enrolled in prog 3653

Math 1B shouldn't be a prerequisite for anyone to do Theory of Stats. I did it in first year and got by easily. Other than mastering double integration, and the odd Taylor series, there is nothing in there that requires first year maths. first year maths helps with understanding, but is not essential in my opinion.

on that topic, i'm just curious, but is it compulsory for us to satisfy a pre-req for a course? i mean, if i do a hhigher course without doing the pre-req, can they (nss) stop me from doing it?

NSS won't let you enrol if you haven't met the pre-reqs. But you can go to your school / faculty and ask them to override that - as long as you've got a good reason and are doing reasonably enough that they reckon you can cope, then they probably will.

So I can enrol in that course in the middle of next year?
BTW, is there much difference, advantage/disadvantage in doing the BComm instead of the MComm?

BComm falls under HECS, MComm dosn't

BComm is a batchelor, MComm is a masters

BComm has Com from the second session, MComm only has Com in the last year

Besides the obvious differences, content wise, would there be much different?

i rekon there would be .... mcom would assume that u know the basics. so they start off doing advance stuff, wheras bcom will lay the foundations before it starts getting specialised

Not necessarily - quite a few M Com students would be people who've done other degrees, but have very little experience with commerce.

I mean, I know for Actuarial they teach exactly the same stuff but change the course code (even the websites were the same up until they shifted to WebCT).

Likewise some finance subjects are identical to the undergrads (except with the first couple of digits altered and a little rephrasing of the name, etc.) and so forth...

following is the content of the mail i received today from ken robinson, who is the program director of software engg. it was in response to my mail to him asking him abt the double degree -

<start>
The BE/BCom program is on the final step to final approval. That step
should be complete in the next month or two. At this stage approval
is a virtual certainty.

So I expect to announce the availability of the program in the next
two months. Transfers should be able to take place immediately.
