    UTS - A Quick Guide

    Welcome!

For those of you who may be considering the University of Technology, Sydney or those of you who are already here but can't remember, here are some links from the University Website where you can obtain information from:

    The UTS Website

The best place to start in terms of looking at degrees/units of study and all other academically related pieces of information.

    The UTS Union Website

The Union is intended to provide and support services and entertainment within the university for students. This includes but is not restricted to: recreational clubs & societies, sporting activities, a fitness centre, parties and food venues.

    The UTS Student's Association Website

The Student Association is intended to represent and advocate student rights and equality at university. They also provide services such as peer tutoring, a second-hand book shop and societies for those who wish to pursue political or religious interests. The Student Assocation is also responsible for such things as Queerspace, the Womyn's Room and the Smash Racism campaign.

    The UTS Library

The Library website is an excellent source of information in all kinds of forms. You can also peruse the catalogue from home to see what you may borrow from the library. There is also a database of other journal articles and comments from around the world. You'll need to be a UTS student to access this database of course.

    Campus Maps

Lost? Don't know where you're going for that next tute/lecture/exam? Take a look at the maps below:

    City campus map

    Kuringai campus map

    Travelling to UTS

Not exactly sure how to get to uni? Here are some directions.

    Directions to UTS City Campus

    Directions to UTS Kuringai Campus

    One Stop Student Administration

This is very important for every UTS student, it is through here that you are able to:
    • Update your personal details,
    • Enroll in or withdraw from subjects,
    • Check your results and
    • Apply for absence of leave.

It is here that you will also find a link to your UTS Email, which it is imperative you check at least once a week.

    ---------------------------------------------

Within this forum, there are threads on the top of the listings marked as "Important", known in the internet vernacular as stickies. Here is a run down of what you may see there:

    BoS UTS Rollcall Wooot!

The Rollcall thread is there to see who in this forum is doing what, and a convenient way of getting a glance at the UTS community on BoS or for finding someone in your course. Just post your username, course and major and I will put you in there.

    2007 UTS Offers

This thread is for people to post their offers at UTS, whether they are undergrad or postgrad. This also includes transfers.

Great places to eat and fun things to do near UTS

This is essentially thread where people can share and discuss entertaining things they've discovered on or near campus, along with cheap or high quality food venues.

UTS Semester 1 Timetables and Subjects!

Every semester we have a thread where people can discuss and share their timetables and subject choices. It is also open for general discussion on timetables such as 'how do/should I make my timetable?' and so on.

    General UTS Chit Chat

In addition to these, we also have a general chatter thread about miscellaneous things somehow to do with UTS. Every now and then it undergoes a name change so that sometimes it is the 'Secks and Results thread' or 'Secks and procrastination thread' and so on, so don't be dismayed if you can't see it right away, its probably still there.

Note: Thread link updated to newer thread

Apart from the general UTS forum, there are also several UTS sub-fora for the purpose of more specific questions and discussions.

    • Kuringai Campus - this is for discussing issues specifically related to the Kuringai campus.
    • Faculties of Business & Law - this is for discussing issues related to specifically to business, management or law degrees and subjects. This includes both undergraduate and postgraduate.
    • Faculty of Design & Architecture - this is for discussing issues related specifically to design, architecture or construction degrees and subjects. This includes both undergraduate and postgraduate.
    • Faculty of Engineering - this is for discussing issues related specifically to engineering degrees and subjects. This includes both undergraduate and postgraduate.
    • Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences - this is for discussing issues related specifically to communication degrees and subjects. This includes both undergraduate and postgraduate.
    • Faculty of IT - this is for discussing issues related specifically to IT subjects and degrees. This includes both undergraduate and postgraduate.
    • Faculty of Science - this is for discussing issues related specifically to science subjects and degrees. This includes both undergraduate and postgraduate.
    • Faculties of Nursing & Education - this is for discussing issues related speficially to nursing or education degrees and subjects. This includes both undergraduate and postgraduate.

I need to go to Business Building 5, Block C, 1-59 Quay Street, Market City for an interview on Thursday--am I correct you go to Railway Square from Central, cross the three-way junction (you know that weird junction where Broadway becomes George Street), and continue along?

    Keep walking down quay street.

Business building block C is right in the middle of the campus.

This is like 10 months late haha but might be useful to somebody else, that would be building 6. If it's the spot im thinking of atleast - the tunnel in central station leads to around there.
