Thought i'd post here since there was only one other thread...

How is everybody with 2u maths..?

At the moment for trials, I'm doing the revision exercises for EACH topic in the Excel Book... I'm up to chapter 6/17! Then I'll do a couple of Excel's practice papers and some Success practice papers.

For the trials we don't need to know the "Trig. Functions" and "Application of Exponential something.." chapters.

My main problem in Maths exams are stuipid addition and multiplication mistakes. Plus by 3 hours my brain is usually dead!

so u havent finished the course?
our trial is on everything

2U maths is so easy, but yeah, mistakes such as 6 x 6 = 12 realli hurt....

Yeah, I think 2u Maths is my easiest topic.

No, we haven't finished one topic: the application of exponentials or whatever.

The one thing I hate in 2u maths is those damn Time Payments things...

Those time payment things are so bloody hard. I do 4U math, and i have no clue how to work out if John invests $40 000 p.a. for 65 years, compound, or whatever. It's the hardest topic I have ever seen. There had better not be a hard one of those in the 3U HSC Paper.

Time payments are hard because the are unpredictible

In the semester 1 exams we got one which was completely different to what we had seen before.

I would rather do them then say integrate
At least it is somewhat relevant to real life

Time payments these days are much more complex and you get computers to work them out.

Exactly, you don't need no manual labour to figure out how much money you will make in 10 yrs if you invest $10 000, just plug the numbers into any basic accounting program, and it does it all for you. Whereas calculus can be used often e.g. Projectile Motion could be effective, take a look at 1997 3U Paper, Que. 8 b.) (I know it because I just did it then, I don't go memorising HSC questions :D) . It's all about if you're dropping an emergency drop-off of food, and you're flying over the water, the water is going at 5km/h....you get the point.

All monetary calculations are pointless now-a-days!!!

Well i agree with you about that monetary calculations are pointless... but

e.g. Projectile Motion could be effective
Not really, because we don't take into account wind, air resistance etc.

and

I don't go memorising HSC questions :D)
yeah..sure, sure, i believe you.

Hey, if you had just spent 2 days doing non-stop 3U HSC papers, you'd go a bit crazy too, wouldn't you!:)

ah..exponential growth and decay
thats fun :)

yes...time payments
its the longest bit of working out in 2U (takes up like almost a page, if u do it fully)
its solely a 2U topic (or at least i hope so)
yeah i jus hope they dun ask u to prove time payments by mathematical induction or somethin crazy..

just did a time payment question then... got it wrong though!

maths is the only subject I worked on these holidays because the trials are worth 40% - all my other subjects are ~20%

Time payment ones you just have to practice............they take a long time to do and there is a lot involved however once you get the processes it gets easy as its basically the same thing over and over
just have to find different variables
