Raw marks compared to scaled HSC marks

Hey
Wat do you think certain raw marks would score in the HSC as a scaled mark? i just got my trial paper back and it was a bit harder than past HSC papers. i scored 109/120. If i was to get this same raw mark in the HSC exam, wat do you think my scaled HSC mark would be. Also, feel free to discuss wat raw marks you think are necessary to secure a band 6 in 2 unit mathematics.

Re: Raw marks compared to scaled HSC marks

i heard it was around 90/120 to scrape a band 6.

not too sure what kind of marks you would need for a high band 6.

The scaling changes every year but wat you got if it was harder that most HSC papers would have got you a band 6

Re: Raw marks compared to scaled HSC marks

I would guess a 95-97 scaled mark with that raw mark. And it's been speculated that low to mid 90s out of 120 would get you band 6. But it depends on how hard the paper is, because scaling changes every year.

A mark of 90-100 (out of 100) in the subject. Think of it like the band 6 in the SC.

What do you think 70-75/120 would scale to?

Re: Raw marks compared to scaled HSC marks

hmmmm my teacher said tha state average every year is only around 45 - 50/120 which is pretty bad 2 be honest. anywaiz if u scored 109/120 in tha HSC im sure dats higher than the top 1% of tha state. 109 shuld be a 98 for HSC mark. I heard if u can secure Q 1-7 all correct, ur top 10% of tha state already. so secure 1 - 9 all correct and dw 2 much abt Q10 remember tha more marks u get higher than tha state average, tha more u get scaled up *nods*
i hOpe dis helps, even tho tha scaling system is very screwy =P

Re: Raw marks compared to scaled HSC marks

I'm pretty sure I only got a maximum of 105/120 last year and that was a 95 HSC exam mark. So that might sound probable

Good on you mate, that's an awesome mark! Is it just me or was the 2005 paper a little harder than previous years...?

I found it doable, although 10 b) threw me off a bit. But it wasn't as hard as most people made it out to be, 2003 was harder for me.

Re: Raw marks compared to scaled HSC marks

Anyone want to give a general guess (I know they change each year) on the range for band 5, at the moment Im thinking like (75 - 90) /120...

My goal is to get a mid band 5, and so I have set my raw goal as 85/120... should get me there right??

Re: Raw marks compared to scaled HSC marks

Hmm, mid 90s should get you a band 6, so look around the 80-95 range for a band 5.
