1. ## Derivative

How do I derive this question:

$\frac{x^2+x+1}{2\sqrt x}$

I tried using the quotient rule, but my answer is wrong. Could someone show me the method they used to obtain the answer of:

$\frac{3x^2+x-1}{4x\sqrt x}$

Ty

What did you get? Maybe you did get the right answer but just not in the form of the given answer, since pretty much anyone would use quotient rule here.

3. ## Re: Derivative

Yep, I needed to further simplify my answer, thanks.

What you mean is: How do I differentiate this . . . or how do I find the derivative of . . . . So you want:

$\frac {d}{dx}\frac {1}{2}(x^{\frac {3}{2}} + x^{\frac {1}{2}} + x^{-\frac {1}{2}} ) = \frac {1}{2} (\frac {3}{2} x^{\frac {1}{2}} + \frac {1}{2} x^{- \frac {1}{2}} - \frac {1}{2}x^{ -\frac {3}{2}})$
