    el capitan

Apple released OS X 10.11 el capitan developer beta 1 today to developers. It had build number 15A178w.

    To make a bootable usb:

Format an 8 GB USB drive which should be called Untitled and formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). The installer should be called Install OS X 10.11 Developer Beta.app and should be in your Applications folder.

Run this in terminal and wait about 20 minutes:

    sudo /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ 10.11\ Developer\ Beta.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/Untitled --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ 10.11\ Developer\ Beta.app --nointeraction

You can boot up from it by selecting it from the startup manager you get when starting your computer and holding down the option key.

If the installation creates a core storage logical volume you can revert it to get partitions back to normal by running these 2 commands in terminal.

    diskutil cs list

    and then

    diskutil coreStorage revert lvUUID

where lvUUID is the last lvUUID reported by the previous Terminal command.

Then restart for everything to get back to normal after you have run these commands in Terminal.

DP4 is out now for developers. But only as a delta update. DP2 and DP3 deltas are also available.

So to update to DP4 you have to install DP1 then DP2 then DP3 then DP4.

    Re: el capitan

To make a bootable usb for DP7 (slightly different to DP1):

Format a USB drive (preferably 16GB USB3) which should be called Untitled and formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). The installer should be called Install OS X El Capitan Developer Beta.app and should be in your Applications folder.

Run this in terminal and wait about 20 minutes:

    sudo /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ El\ Capitan\ Developer\ Beta.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/Untitled --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ El\ Capitan\ Developer\ Beta.app --nointeraction

A second beta for 10.11.1 has been released for developers and public beta testers.

10.11 has also been released to the public.

You can make a bootable usb by formatting a usb as Mac OS X Extended (Journaled), call it Untitled and then run this in terminal:

    sudo /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ El\ Capitan.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/Untitled --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ El\ Capitan.app --nointeraction

    Re: el capitan

Here is how to make the bootable dvd in terminal:

On the last line replace "YOURNAME" with the username for the account you are logged into at the time.

    hdiutil attach /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ El\ Capitan.app/Contents/SharedSupport/InstallESD.dmg -noverify -nobrowse -mountpoint /Volumes/install_app

hdiutil convert /Volumes/install_app/BaseSystem.dmg -format UDSP -o /tmp/El\ Capitan

    hdiutil resize -size 9g /tmp/El\ Capitan.sparseimage

hdiutil attach /tmp/El\ Capitan.sparseimage -noverify -nobrowse -mountpoint /Volumes/install_build

    rm /Volumes/install_build/System/Installation/Packages

    cp -rp /Volumes/install_app/Packages /Volumes/install_build/System/Installation/

    cp -rp /Volumes/install_app/BaseSystem.chunklist /Volumes/install_build

    cp -rp /Volumes/install_app/BaseSystem.dmg /Volumes/install_build

    hdiutil detach /Volumes/install_app

    hdiutil detach /Volumes/install_build

    hdiutil resize -size `hdiutil resize -limits /tmp/El\ Capitan.sparseimage | tail -n 1 | awk '{ print $1 }'`b /tmp/El\ Capitan.sparseimage

    hdiutil convert /tmp/El\ Capitan.sparseimage -format UDTO -o /tmp/El\ Capitan

    rm /tmp/El\ Capitan.sparseimage

    mv /tmp/El\ Capitan.cdr ~/Desktop/El\ Capitan.iso

    sudo drutil burn /Users/YOURNAME/Desktop/El\ Capitan.iso
