Mine was lower by 1 mark (pretty small gap) so for me it was fairly accurate. I can't expect it to be 100% accurate.
Just curious, did anyone get an ATAR that was lower than the calculators? If so, was the gap large?
2017 HSC: Eng (Adv.) · 3U Math · 4U Math · Chem · Phys · Bio (98.90 ATAR)

someone in the fb group got 45 or something and the atar calculator estimated 50.
^matrix
Matrix estimated like 90.35 at the start, got 91.10 in the end
Rest of them (talent, hsc ninja etc.) all said like 92
i used matrix and got 99.6, actually got 99.35, is this even possible
I got 0.70 off Matrix, 0.50 off Talent 100 and 0.90 off hscninja

Matrix said 96.60 hsc ninja 96.55 and actual atar was 96.10.
Physics, Chem, Bio, Maths Extension 2, Advanced English
whats with this year, it's like the scaling is all random
will this affect the cut offs for courses?
matrix said 92 , hsc ninja said 91 , ended up with 89.75 SHOOT ME PLS
estimated 99.85/99.9 got 99.95
The calculators said 77-79, ended up getting 75.41
More individuals got into the top 3 bands this year then previous years so I suspect that this will impact on the scaling.

Think most people got lower atar than calculator-guessing the scaling was bit rough this year?
Here what calc tell me:
Matrix: 88.90
HSC ninja: 89.40 +/-0.75 (max of 90.15 lowest of 88.65)
Talent 100: 90.05
Actual atar: 87.90
... kill me plz
Matrix told me 89.45 and HSC Ninja told me 95.7. My actual atar was 95.25 so HSC Ninja was pretty close.
0.05 off matrix
Also yeah scaling was weird this year since some subjects had easy exams so more high marks and probably the cohort was really strong

Scaling is carried out afresh each and every year. The scaling in 2017 had zero impact on the scaling in 2018. Scaling is only dependent on the strength of the cohort, not the difficulty of the exam. If a subject scaled better, it meant that students in that subject had higher marks on average than another set of students in another course. Vice versa if a subject scaled poorly.
It has no impact on the cut offs.
i used the matrix one and actually got higher it predicted 94.smth and i got 95
My ATAR was 0.85 lower than the lowest ATAR estimated (ignoring the +/- 1.30 on one of the estimates). I used several calculators, including Matrix, Talent100 and HSC Ninja.
