Just wondering what the difference in workload there is between year 10 and year 11. My Maths teacher keeps on saying most new year 11s become "shell-shocked", as they are just petrified by the laregly increased amount of work they get in the Prelim Course.

Would it mean more Maths content for 3U?, more Science content for the scientific subjects, and more essay-wriitng and memorising for a History-based subject? Also, would there be more assessment tasks and would they each have a more increased importance in weighting?

Just basically , wats the difference between yr 10 and 11? Im very curious

Year 11 has completely different courses compared to year 10, since you are able to choose your own courses. Basically there are more pressure for you to do good, and perhaps more assessments.

That's what I believe to be the differences anyways.

I wouldn't say largely increased workload, but it is an increase, all the same.

dont believe any1 who says year 11 is easy and no worload.. they are either geniuses or bludgers..

its very hard compared to year 10.. there is no comparison.. u learn all new stuff especially for maths,,, u get bombarded with assesments..!!!

and year 12 is even harder..

but nothing a little time management cant fix..

I think those students that where "shell-shocked" come preliminary where the students in the school certificate that bludged and didn't do as much work then when they entered senior high school and the work, pressure and committment steps up a notch it comes as a real shock.

As with all years the amount of work and difficulty is stepped up a notch. However it is preliminary you are allowed to make mistakes as you adjust as these marks will not count towards your HSC. So try out new study techniques and patterns and see what works for you.

There is a significant difference between Year 10 and Year 11 and I felt it hard, especially in English. I still remember in the first term of Year 11 the whole class was getting marks like 3/15, and 5/15 and I was doing pretty well in English the year before. So there will be a shock but you'll get used to it.

also if you paid attention in junior school, for example the three science courses Physics, Chemistry and Biology can be started off very quickly.
If you are good at Social Science subjects and/ore specialise in it, it wouldn't be as much of a burden to you than others.

I didn't really find year 11 too different... but I chose things I liked, so I had more reason to do my work I guess :/

Although, I am finding year 12 somewhat hard to get into...

Just out of interest. How many Year 11's this year kept a part time job AND a good grade average? How many hours did you work a week.

Parentals think I should quit my job (15-20hrs a week) at the video shoppe, because it'll save quitting it when the workload gets rough.

Any thoughts?

If you can keep it up, might as well get the extra cash. Prelim marks don't really matter. Just make sure you understand everything for year 12.

I suppose its kinda pointless replying as many people say smae things ubt i will none the less lol...Year 11 is a lot different to year 10. You do chose your own courses so you are expected to do the work and not bludge. There is more pressure for you to do well only coz the teachers do want u to do well. You wont be treated like children anymore and this isnt all good coz that means punishment comes straight to you. As teachers at my school highly emphasised you are choosing to be at school you do not need to be there and if u dont perform you will be kicked out.

This doesnt mean u need to get 100% in everything it just means u need to do all work that is set for you, there will be more assignments and a lot of assignments at the same time but it is all bout time management. If you plan when you are gonna do things and dont leave them till the last minute u will be fine coz the work isnt that hard if you are able to set time to do it. As for year twelve it is another step up once again and more work and less time and higher expectations but u'll do fine if u set ur mind to it.

I'm in year 10, but I've finished year 11 for two subjects (Maths and IPT). I noticed... It didn't feel like THAT much more work, though I'm at a good school, but there's more pressure to do the work. Because their your subjects and its your future. Plus, in year 12, you know that how you do is going towards your final HSC mark, which makes everything more... stressful, I suppose, because it's kind of like, you can't afford to stuff up.

well personally i think that year 11 is the year where everyone should atleast have an attempt in trying and experiencing what you can achieve. Year 11 was the year where i started to get my act together, and i believe it's not too late. Trying at the start of year 12 isn't too late either, but it'll be harder to get into a study habit/routine.

I totally agree with yoakim. Year 11 is more like a learning process for year 12, to find out what works best for you. But you should definitely try to enjoy yr11...while you still can.

The workload? Depends on how many units you do, if you like the subjects or find them hard.

Keep it, you'll want something else to do to balance out study. Why not try asking for fewer hours, I dunno.

Until Year 11 I had never, ever, ever done any work outside of school - I did all right - straight Band 5s and a 6 in the SC.

The year 11 hit me.

Fucking hard.

Be prepared to do a lot of out-of-school work, although technically Year 11 doesn't matter. You just need to hone your skills for Year 12 and learn content for courses that run for both years. It's a hard ride, but it's fucking worht it (at least so far for me).

if you guys found the transition between yr10 and yr11 hard, wait till u get to yr12.

none of your prelim results count to your hsc and uai results, so dont worry if you stuff up. don't worry too much or you'l become totally stressed out by year 11 term 4. just relax and go with the flow for the 1st 3 terms. when term 4 arrives, be prepared to work your ass off.
