Does anyone know why the statue blinks in Interview With the Vampire when Louis turns in to a vampire?

Maybe its because of Louis now having better senses after his transition?
Or, maybe it's supposed to be 'Ooooo, God is looking down on you' type thing?
I'm not sure, but I've always wondered myself.
