Hellos,

I need help on what to do to receive the atar i need. I'm currently doing the subjects below for my preliminary.

English Standard

Mathematics (2U)
Information Processes & Technology (IPT)
Music 1
Business Studies

Fundamentals of English (1U)
Studies of Religion (1U)
Vietnamese Continuers
Screen & Media (Sound) [TVET]

TOTAL = 16 UNITS

I'm confused on what I should do for my HSC. My options are below
1
English Standard/Advanced
[I want to move to advanced for scaling purposes but i prefer my standard teacher]
Mathematics
IPT
Music 1
Business
Religion
Viet
[I don't plan on going serious for this, using it as backup for uni reasons]

TOTAL = 13 UNITS

2
English Standard/Advanced
[same as above]
Mathematics
IPT
Music 1
Business
Religion

[ drop viet, but business is okay, not VERY good at it]

TOTAL = 11 UNITS

3
English Standard/Advanced [same as above]
Mathematics
IPT
Music 1
Religion
Vietnamese

[ drop business, but viet isn't one of my strong points]

TOTAL = 11 UNITS

4
English Standard/Advanced [same as above]
Mathematics
IPT
Music 1
Business
Vietnamese

[ drop religion, eventhough im good at, i can concentrate on 10 units and viet still as backup ]

ATAR AIM = 92+

My ATAR aim is above, i was also wondering whether its possible to get the atar below with the subject considerations above, which one is best to choose. If its not even possible to get the atar i want with those subjects then i need advice on what to do. Thanks for reading/helping.

It's possible to get any ATAR...

Just choose the ones you are best at. Don't use teachers and scaling as a reason to choose (unless it's like Aboriginal Studies or something).

I'm suprised you didn't pick 4U maths. :)
naaa. 2unit maths is a breeze so far but 3unit would be hell and 4unit would be suicide. Besides, my future career doesn't necessarily need 4unit maths. LOL

i know, i get told that alot. But at my school, once you choose 2unit, you are not allowed to change to 3unit EVER.

i wanna do the sound and music design combined with international studies at UTS which is 92+ ATAR. I plan on doing something that combined music/sound/audio with IT. That course seems to provide both plus an xtra for me to learn another language and go oversees for one year. =)

not necessarily - maths is a very demanding subject, even for those who can 'breeze' through the simpler concepts. extension in my opinion disadvantages my other subjects.... this isnt the case for everyone, but i think it is for me and reng.

go with option 2 and pick up advanced english. its nearly impossible to get a high band 5 or 6 with standard. plus i think you could handle it.

11 units with one backup since your not great at one. dont do a langauge unless your very keen and can achieve well at it in all areas.

Well, the workload in advance and standard are the same. So if you think your capable of doing advance then go with it. Albeit it is journeys.
I want to do B. Science (advanced mathematics) :p

Are you sure the workload is the same? Cause for an assessment this year, we had to write a four page essay with 3 texts with 4 techniques each while advanced had to do the same thing but with 3 texts and 6 techniques. =="

2 Unit is not advanced.

Do option 1 with Advanced English. If you already speak Vietnamese, then it should be easy. Have a look at some past exams for it. Most the language papers I read looked ridiculously easy if you were already fluent in speaking the language. You also have a fair few extra units to make sure you get the best 10 units for your ATAR.

Come your HSC year, reassess how your performance is in your subjects and drop one if needed.

This is how it goes.

2U General Maths
2U Mathematics (Advanced) - it is called advanced unofficially.
1U Extension Maths 1
1U Extension Maths 2

dont make me argue with you on this, because i will.

It's called 'Advanced' by kids that think General is hard or kids that think their piss poor marks are ok because they're in the "advanced" course.

And unofficial doesn't mean shit. It is not advanced.

Isn't it just called Mathematics? =="

Doesn't it go
General Mathematics (2U)
Mathematics (2U)
Mathematics Ext 1 (1U)
Mathematics Ext 2 (1U)

No, it goes like:
General Mathematics (2U)
Mathematics (2U)
Mathematics Extension 1 (1U/2U) where MX1 counts as 1U for '3 unit math' students, and 2U for '4 unit math' students.
Mathematics Extension 2 (2U)
