Find the values of k for which the following equation will have equal roots.

$x^2 - k(x-1)+3=0$

$\newline x^2 - k(x-1) + 3 = 0 \newline x^2 - kx + k + 3 = 0 \newline \newline $For equal roots, \Delta = 0$ \newline \Delta = b^2 - 4ac \newline \Delta = (-k)^2 - 4(1)(k+3) \newline \Delta = k^2 - 4k - 12 \newline \newline k^2 - 4k - 12 = 0 \newline (k-6)(k+2)= 0 \newline \newline\therefore k = 6, -2$

Falsenthusiam how did you type that maths?

Also, to answer the OPs question I did the same method and got the same answer. Should be correct.

Use LaTeX and surround that in the tex tags.

Actually I cheated and used a LaTeX equation editor. Then copied and pasted the phpBB code ...

Using TEX tags would probably be quicker though.
