For the first one, I would break it down into |x|-1 = y and |x|-1 = -y, which is farely simple to draw, with the later simply a reflection about the y-axis. But also in the initial equation, x cannot exist in -1 < x < 1, as the equation |x|-|y|=1 would not satisfy.

For the second one, similar thing, break down into x-y=1, and -x-y=1.
