\noindent The simultaneous equations are \\ \begin{align*}\quad 2M + 2N + G &= 10 \\ M + N + G &= 6 \\ 2G &= 4\end{align*} \\ I don't think there is a way to solve for M and N but it is possible to know which possible values they can take.

This question is practically unsolvable through simultaneous - in my opinion.

I don't know how I got it but:
If M = 1 then N = 3
If M = 2 then N = 2
If M = 3 then N = 1

I didn't do it simultaneously though, coz it didn't work for me. I sort of did it with my mind. (It might be wrong)

Could you potentially try graphing X=2 (4=2G) , and then the equations of 2M+2N+G=6 and then M+N+G=6.

(Maybe the table of values would be the quickest method of solving?)

Thanks, my teacher went through it with me and you got the right answers! I was confused because I haven't played Scrabble before and I didn't realise letters couldn't be worth 0 or a non-integer.

Don't worry, that is one stupid maths question, I doubt you will be asked anything like that in the HSC.
