Parametrics is a killer. I don't know how to derive the chord of contact: x x0 = 2a ( y + y0 )

Well, there's two ways - One which is quite quick but REALLY hard to understand, or one which is quite a bit longer. I have a powerpoint on parametrics I might post up - I gave a presentation to the 3 unit maths class this year, however its not on this computer. I'll do it tomorrow.

I believe that's the only equation you can memorise and not have to be able to derive in the parametrics locus topic.

Here's the ppt. I know it's bit but it's got everything, including both proofs of chord of contact.
I spent a lot of time trying to explain the first method. I got through to most people, but if you don't get it, use the second method below.



Here, 'They' refers to the two tangents.
