Australian Open starts in a few weeks, with the Hopman Cup, Brisbane International, Medibank Sydney International and Hobart international preceding it. Early male and female favourites for the first grand slam of the tour?

Re: The Official Tennis Thread

I'm looking forward to the Australian Open. Might go watch Sydney International if a few friends are up for it.

Kristina Keneally really sucks at pronouncing tennis stars' names. :p

This years open looks exciting with Federer not dominating as much.

Re: The Official Tennis Thread

I'm going to the quarter finals on Australia Day and the day after. $108 for tickets to each session is a bit rich but I plan to make it all back using tennis multis lol.

Del Potro is favourite this time. And Maria Sharapova in female category.

del potro fav?? just because he won the us open doesn't make him the aus open fav...federer will always be the bookies' fav
and as for sharapova, she only won 1 singles title in 09. how could that propel her to fav status?

Re: The Official Tennis Thread

It's definitely a more even playing field as opposed to last year where Nadal and Federer clearly stood out from the rest of the draw.

Hoping Baghdatis has a good AO, but realistically roddick, fed, nadal, davydenko or oporto can win it.

Oh and no one cares about the female draw soz
