Depends on the year, but that is about right (note, there is no Band 6 in 4U maths, highest is Band E4)

Surely that can't be right, when the mean mark is usually like 55-60%, and like 40% of people usually get into E4 (last year was a bit less though).

I've been hearing about that 50% to band E4 stuff as well. That could probably be right, since last year I was rather sure I scored around 50% or less depending on how much mistakes I do (pretty sure I did a lot too), and the exam mark was 89.

So yeah, maybe it's right, or maybe last year I did better than I thought..

My teacher has a book with mean, SD, max mark, min mark, median etc. for all papers (and all individual questions too) from like '90-'00. The book is released by the MANSW, and not BOS.

It's a shame they're not released anymore. :( And the same for other courses.

Its out of the 50 Tips book, on about page 3 or 4 (right in the front).
It also has the past 10 years HSCs listed in order of difficulty - for you to do them in this order.

Same deal for the 3U 50 Tips book.

I got 96 and i'm sure I had alot more than 60 right
doesnt the difficultly to get each mark above 90 rise exponentially anyway?

Actually the % of people with 90+ has been declining over the years, last year it was only like 33% (IIRC).

my teacher showed us the stats yesterday.

the mean mark is around 57/120 for the last 10 years of the HSC, except in 1999 when the mean was 73. and the scaled mean for is 91. so if u get 57/120, u'll get 91% as ur exam mark for the HSC.

however, the last 2 yrs stats haven't been released. but just by looking at this site, http://www.boardofstudies.nsw.edu.au/ebos/static/BDHSC_2002_12_15260.htm , i know that u'll need more than 57/120 to get 90. so i reckon around 70/120 would be cutoff.
