It's spelt 'actuarial'.

And most people go to either Macquarie or UNSW; they're the most speciliased and respected for it.

I am interested. Looked at all sorts of things related to actuarial course at Macquarie and UNSW. Very much aware of job that actuary does as well.

However, what is the most popular double degree? I am interested in Economics/Actuarial course or Finance/Actuarial course. Apparently Law/Actuarial is not popular at all.

Well, can anyone tell me good double degrees?

I'm interested in it, mainly at UNSW. But I has no idea about economy.

Do the degree you are interested in, no point doing something you won't even like

And does it really matter if it is popular or not?

"Popular" degrees usually have reason behind its popularity. The reason why I asked for popularity was to see why it is popular and why it seems attractive to many people.

The reaon that I am interested in Economics/Actuarial course is that I thought doing Economics would further help the job prospect of it and I am also interested in Economics.

I am not really that pedantic but I think knowing about the course is important and that's why I asked for popularity, hoping that someone would tell me why it's popular and why it seems attractive.

I concur that there is no point in doing something that I won't like. However, if I rejected that degree because I didn't know about it and sounded silly, who knows if I will really like it or not if I really experienced it?

As an actuary student, I am pretty sure you were eager to know about actuary before you started it, right? I am in that situation now.

I would not really be attracted by pay. I would certainly do any course where I can do what I like - Mathematics and Commerce - and get challenged.

I was interested in it, but now I'm thinking of not doing it because
1. After the HSC I dont really wanna work THAT hard in uni :p
2. I dont want to fail any subjects @ uni because I want to go to japan for a semester
3. Putting so much effort into a specialised area when I never intend to stay in the profession for long is.. a waste of time and just silly

Most students do Actuarial with App. Finance, but yeh take the second degree if you're interested in it.
If u plan to become an actuary (by this i mean completing part I, II and III) then it wont matter if u did single or double degree.

I would suggest Macquarie.

Just a matter of fact : Recently 2 subjects (out of 4 that you have to do to complete Part III) has been outsourced to Macquarie University. So u can do these subjects at a uni instead of doing it by yourself.

Correct me if I am wrong...

Fair enough, but I also hear many people doing accounting and actuarial studies just so they have something else to fall back on, so if they decide not to continue with the career of being an actuary, then they can get their CA/CPA qualifications instead

But anyway it won't really matter what degree you choose for the 1st year at MACQ, because all 1st year people do the same subjects if you are doing actuarial studies, except for people who do it with law or computer science, otherwise you have the option to "explore" other areas then internally transfer to another double degree if you are not that interested in economics (in your case)

But 1st year is utter means to what actual career can be like, but it's pretty much an introduction.

I think this is sort of the same with UNSW as well

From what I gathered, the 2 units in Part III being outsourced to MU is meant for all that will be studying their Part IIIs.

Go for either Macq or UNSW though the latter if you can get Co-op because thats definately an advantage.

It doesn't really compliment each other, or so I've heard from current acst/law students. You'll really be putting one hard degree with another hard degree with equals an even harder degree lol

But with double degrees it expands your knowledge and I guess there's something to fall back on if you don't want to have a career in one of the areas you have completed
