Just relax. Take a few deep breaths. Chill.

As nerve-wracking as it can be, you really don't need to get worked up over it. O Week is designed to break you into the college way of life (I assume you're going to college) and the people there are deadset as helpful as they are friendly. Walk in with an open mind and you'll have a blast. I shouldn't have to say this, but be careful on the mountain. She's a real bitch at the best of times.

And spare a thought for those of us who won't be going until the 16th.

I'm leaving tomorrow as well, so I'll have to start packing soon, now that I think of it. Hopefully I'll still have enough time to finish a book I've been reading afterwards.

I find packing takes me all day. There's always something I find I'm in need of and I hate leaving stuff behind. So I'm packing on the night of the 15th and driving up on the 16th.

what's the routine tomorrow? i know, at least for page, the college opens at 10 and there is a welcome at 1:30, but what happens when we get there? do we go to the office and find out where our room is and then go unpack? or does that happen later? what happens at night? at what point do the parents leave? when do we meet everyone? etc. etc.

I'll walk you through what happened when I arrived last year.

We came in through the front where we were met by a member of the O Week committee and taken to meet Matt and Anna, the JCR President and Vice or last yaer. They just gave us a name-tag with our course on it and the person who brought us in then took us to meet my Resident Fellow. He told us who he was and what he did as he showed us to my room and handed the keys over. We unpacked and stayed around for lunch, which was open to everyone. We met my mentor for last year and a few of the other Freshers before the parents left. The first night was relatively quiet to let us all get used to it, and then on the second day it really began. You won't really have too much time to yourself as we had a progressive dinner, functions on the courtyard, a scavenger hunt to get us acquainted with the town. Then there were more or less academic things with course planning advice and enrolment on Tuesday and Wednesday folowed by compulsory lectures on the Thursday and Friday (although everyone was tired by the end). There's also a safety talk and a few other things that have to be done down below. When the Returners lived up to their name on the Friday and returned, we had a second progressive dinner and a function on the weekend. For Duval, it was Woolshed, where we dress up and go out to a woolshed and dance. Sounds lame, but it's actually pretty good.

Bear in mind, this is how it played out last year for my college, so for once, you shouldn't take this as Gospel.

As far as I know it is at 11.30am (but ill text you Blackdragon) it said so on the College Intro sheet. And for the rest of whats happened? well... I suppose I'd go to the office, get my room number, go unpack and then socialise and whatever happens happens :p

Ok update. The "masters welcome" is at our individual colleges on Sunday.
The "vice chancellors" welcome is at Boolimimba (spelling?) on Monday.

Just in case anyone was confused (because I know for sure that I was)

It's suddenly so much more lonely here now that all the freshers of '07 have left.

Hope y'all made it there safely, guys (and girls ... equality is like gravity, we knid of need it to survive). Have fun; I'll be joining you Friday.

Anyone here? How's it all going, had a good day(s)? I had a good morning, thanks to the really nice peer support mentors! :)
Unfortunately didn't get a free sausage sandwhich or anything, the line was too long I thought.

Ah, so that's why there's hardly anyone here. Haha yeah.

I'd agree, it has been pretty crazy. Damn was the UNE bistro crap or what last night, we(someone I met there, and I) ended up walking to the Servies lol. The Servies was pretty good I thought, for the time that I was there anyway.

It's weird meeting people from the internet. It's a nice weird though.

And for the record, I'm having fun at Duval.
