Yea, when you get rejected just sleep in their foyer until they give you a room. There somewhere around 40 times the amount of people who apply than rooms that are available. I doubt youd get it. The only chance is making yourself sound like a jock.

They reject something like 4000 applications. So probably more than 1 to 40

I lived 5 hours away had one of the best sets of extra curriculars I've come across and still managed to get rejected.

does not compute.

Kids I know who got it live an epic distance away (Coonabarabran, Tamworth, Lismore, Forster).

Remember its newcastle here so these places are hardly selective colleges - they don't give a shit about extracurriculars, they're just a cash cow.

Pretty sure you'd be better off not living there anyway. Hello exxy.

Re: some *useful* links for those considering Newcastle Uni

i was wondering and because you all seem like a smart bunch of people that you might know the answer well is it true that if your sibling (brother) is already on campus then their little sibling (me) will get extra consideration for on campus accomodation??

Yes pretty sure thats true, theres a part on the application about knowing current/past residents so that would give an advantage. I dont think distance helps, they just love people from Port Macquarie/Tamworth/Dubbo etc (helps that everyone knows each other). I am from Tasmania and got rejected! Also know a few others from Tas who got rejected as well. I kicked up a stink, and harassed them for a while-emails and phone call messages and got a spot about a week later, thank god.

And in my opinion the cost is pretty reasonable, lots of other unis cost a lot more.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to just get a room off campus though? I understand they can be difficult to find, but still.

When you take into account the 'hidden costs' (food, toiletries, bills, when shit breaks, etc) along with the time spent having to cook and clean for yourself and others, it doesn't end up cheaper.

Your chances aren't automatically slim, you just have to present your case the right way.

I'm assuming you're looking at Newcastle Uni for 1st Semester 2010?
