What fees are payable by students studying at UWS in 2006

In late 2005 the Federal Government adopted new legislation that changed the way in which student organisations can be funded at Australian universities. Prior to this change universities levied a compulsory fee on all students to fund these organisations and in particular the range of services they provide.

The effect of the Government’s legislation is that universities will have to phase out the compulsory Student Activities Fee (SAF) which supported the provision of these services. This will apply to all UWS students from 1 January 2007.

The arrangements for 2006 are slightly complicated in that the new laws take effect from 1 July 2006 and in addition they only apply to those students who are new enrolments from that date.

For the bulk of students who are commencing or resuming their studies from first session 2006, the Student Activities Fee is still payable for the full year in the same manner as it has been in past years. The fee is payable by instalments each teaching session on a pro-rata basis.

Payment of the Student Activities Fee for 2006

Each teaching session you will receive a Statement of Account which indicates what Student Activities Fee you are required to pay based on your enrolled unit load for that teaching session.

The amounts, per teaching session for 2006 are:

Standard Sessions - Autumn, Spring, 1H, 2H, Year-Long, R1, R2.

If you are enrolled in units that total less than 30 credit points in the teaching session (0.375 EFTSL) you are charged a part-time rate (P). If your enrolled units are equal to or greater than 30 credit points (0.375 EFTSL) you will be charged a full-time rate (F).

If you are enrolled in a course (not units) that is registered as an external course then you are eligible to pay the external or distance student rate (D).

Full-time (F) - $182
Part-time (P) - $122
External or Distance (D) - $63.50

Non-Standard Sessions - Quarters (Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4)
If you are enrolled in units that total less than 20 credit points (0.250 EFTSL) you are charged a part-time rate (P). If your enrolled units are equal to or greater than 20 credit points (0.250 EFTSL) you are charged a full-time rate (F).

If you are enrolled in a course (not units) that is registered as an external course then you are eligible to pay the external or distance student rate (D).

Full-time (F) - $91
Part-time (P) - $61
External or Distance (D) - $31.75
When you receive your Student Fees Account, a due date will be included. Payment methods are detailed on the reverse of the statement.

Please Note: You cannot defer your Student Activities Fee. It must be paid in full by the due date each teaching session.

Ok, I have a question.

I'm doing 4 subjects as normal this semester, what happens if I do one externally. Will they add it up by 3 x full time and 1 x external?
