temperature regulation in endotherms

how does control of blood flow in endotherms assist in temperature regulation? in the heinemann text book it says:

Control of blood flow
Endotherms may increase or decrease heat
exchange with the environment by controlling the blood flow to their
skin and extremities. The amount of blood flowing and the route it takes
can be adjusted. This enables the skin temperature to be lowered while
maintaining a normal internal body temperature.

but how can the amount of blood flowing and the route it takes be adjusted by an endotherm

by amount of blood i think it means the rate of flow, and by the route maybe it means if the blood vessels dilate then it can flow closer to the skin

r3d3mption is an unknown quantity at this point
Re: temperature regulation in endotherms

Blood carries heat if you dilate your capillaries then they will carry more blood near your skin's surface allowing the heat to dissipate into the environment. If it's cold your blood vessels contract to keep in the heat.
