Hi everyone,
Is it possible to separate CaCO3 from sand using only physical methods?
It seems tricky to me.

The only way I can think of is:

- Dissolve CaCO3 in a dilute acid (Since CaCO3 is insoluble to water.) (This is a chemical change. So, it's irreversible)
- Then filter out the sand.

That works. But no acids were allowed.

My teacher gave me a difficult mixture... lol

CaCO3 and sand have different melting points. So you could possibly use that (I think), but it certainly wouldn't be doable in a classroom lab.
