Water

Bioaccumulation – The accumulation of a substance in various tissues of a living organism.

Wilting – When plants lose water from their leaves, and the leaves loses their structure.

Fertilisers – Substances added to soil to increase a plant’s growth.

Algal Blooms – Excess growth of blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) that covers the surface of water.

Eutrophication – An excess of mineral nutrients.

Transpiration – Loss of water from the aerial parts of a plant (leaf) through small pores called stomata. Transpiration helps to transport water from the roots to the leaf.

Solute – It is the substance that dissolves in a solution.

Solvent – It is the substance that does the dissolving in a solution.

Solution – It is made up of a solute and a solvent.

Hydrological Cycle (Water Cycle) – Water is continuously recycled between the ground and the atmosphere.



Water Table – The level at which you reach ground water.

Aquifer – It is the body of soil or rock that holds water.

Catchment Area – An area of land that holds water with natural features forming its boundaries.

Ground Salinity – When the soil contains an excess of salt.

Herbicides – Chemicals used to control unwanted plants.

Pesticide – Chemicals used to control pests other than plants.

Leaching – The loss of nutrients from the soil, due to rain and irrigation.

Acid Rain – When rain is polluted with acids caused by sulfur and nitrogen compounds.

Thermal Pollution – When a body of water’s temperature is unnaturally changed by human influence.

Plants



Photosynthesis – When plants prepare food from carbon dioxide and water in presence of sunlight. Glucose and oxygen is formed as a product.

Water + Carbon Dioxide > Sunlight/Chlorophyll = Glucose + Oxygen

6H2O + 6CO2 > Sunlight/Chlorophyll > C6H12O6 + 6O2

Germination – The process where a seed embryo breaks through the seed coat and starts its growth.

Germination Requirements:

 Temperature
 Water
 Oxygen

Macrominerals – Minerals required in the largest amounts. Examples of these are:
Calcium, Chloride, Magnesium, Phosphorous, Potassium, Silicon, Sodium, and Sulfur.

Microminerals – Minerals required in the smallest amounts. Examples of these are:
Iron, Zinc, Iodine, Selenium, Copper, Manganese, and Chromium.

pretty good summary.
btw we always get told to say that a solution is a "mixture of a solute and solvent". dunno if it makes much of a difference though.
