With another bloke hospitalised in a loveridge/kelly style king hit attack in Kings Cross over new years, renewed calls have been made to address alcohol fuelled violence.

The police association has called for the 'Newcastle Solution' to be implemented. This strategy includes:

- earlier closing times
- lockouts
- Zyklon B
- only lower strength drinks sold after x pm

This strategy was correlated with a decline in violence when implemented in the city of Newcastle back in ' 09.

The Hotels association has opposed this strategy, citing the millions of dollars their members make through human suffering.

Barry O'Farrell has defended his decision to do nothing of substance, citing the sweet sauna the hotels association just put in at macquarie street

Are you concerned about alcohol and/or violence?
Do you believe Newcastle style laws are the laws that exist in Newcastle?

I think there is more actual violence, not just more media reporting (which there is also more of).

Crime in almost all categories is at record lows per capita, but the exception is violent assault, particularly alcohol related, which has substantially increased over a prolonged period.

The newcastle solution only worked because less people went overall..... and im sure bars will be earning less money.... But i think crimes in other areas would have risen....

And the same things will happen in Sydney if the lockouts were to be implemented.... the problems will just spread to other areas, and less people will go to the city.... and its will piss off people who finish work late (ranging from hospitality, cleaners, financial (since there are people staying in offices looking at the overseas market) and whatever, and they would rather go to a pub rather than to go right home...

To summarize things, LOCKOUTS NEVER WORKS
