It says the Australian "extremism landscape" has been significantly influenced by the refugee intake, pointing in particular to the Lebanese people who came under the humanitarian program between 1975 and 1990, and subsequent family migration.

Most were from "the poorer and uneducated Lebanese Muslim population", the document says.

"Consequently, this led to the transportation to Australia of a Sunni community which included elements who already held extremist beliefs or who were more highly receptive to extremist messages," it says.

There have been instances of extremist violence within this community although their activities more commonly relate to "the provision of ideological or political support and/or fundraising".

What Dutton said this week was right unfortunately. The facts and stats outweigh the accusations of racism and bigotry

We must seriously question bringing Syrian refugees and the further implications it could bring, which could last for generations.

We need educated folks and minorities from those sorts of countries such as Syria in particular. Otherwise if pressured to accept these other groups besides the ones I have already mentioned, we eventually need to deport the others back humanely soon as the conflict finishes.

Countries like Germany, Canada and other nations around the world are currently making similar mistakes and don't realise the problems or future problems that could come as a result. You need to understand the education, sociology and beliefs of these people first before making these decisions.

Wrong. How are countries like Syria ever meant to improve if the smartest people all leave?

I am not calling for all the educated and 'smart' people to leave but if they don't have a choice during a war in their country than they should of course be free to leave at their will.

Btw I also don't agree with the brain drain epidemic happening in third-world countries as its very counterproductive to the growth of those nations. However if their country has a lack of jobs suited to their academia and skills then they don't have a real choice. Especially if their country is in the middle of a war. Its at best complicated.

I'm fine with them coming here. Just as long as they return to their respective countries after their conflict ends.

Same. We should give them all Temporary Visas until the situation in Syria and elsewhere, when there's conflict calms down.

John Howard was introducing these 'Temporary protection visas' until there was a backlash from the 'refugees' themselves and these advocacy groups. Labor totally abolished after 2007. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temporary_protection_visa

Only in extreme circumstances if they are from minority groups that are prone to prosecution in places where there is conflict, they should be given permanent residency as refugees. Minority groups which are prosecuted in conflcit zones like the Hazara, Assyrians, Chaldean and Yazidis definitely need to be given this opportunity.

Agreed. So many Assyrians are coerced into being Muslim, it's disgusting.

They need safety and a platform, it's a shame Chris Bowen dropped the whole Assyrian thing.

We seem to agree on a lot. But different ways of acheiving those things.

I don't prefer the tough and bold approach, rather the more subtle and softer approach. Even though I have a similar problem at first thought in excepting all these refugees who come here through illegal means and trying to jump ahead of the waiting line to come to this country. Think about all the others who have to patiently wait and go through the correct process.

I don't want any Muslims entering this country. They come here with ulterior motives, they can't assimilate and they end up forcing themselves on the Westerners. The media also pushes their agenda with this whole thing trying to make people feel bad for the 'plight' of these 'people'. You look at immigration of other types of people and you see a group that learns to assimilate, a group that entertains their culture but within the confines of what is socially acceptable, keeping in mind that this isn't their country and that they're guests and aren't entitled to push their traditions on everybody. But these illegal Muslim refugees are so inept of doing that, I seriously don't feel a single shred of compassion for any of them.

When did it become okay to molest because you didn't realise your victim didn't want to be molested, when did it become okay to pounce on women because their short dresses enticed you, when did it become okay to go around stabbing the youth of the country you were recently granted entry into. We have a crisis, it's no longer an itch, it's a full-blown amputation of our rights and of our safety. There is no denying left-wing politics brought us to this stage and there's no denying that the foolishness of prominent left-wing retards (Angela Merkel) summoned the right-wing. Now it only boils down to whether or not the right-wing can save us in time.
