yeah, the systematic name of the monomer for pvc is chloroethene.

Yes styrene is the common name for phenylethene. As for polystyrene, the IUPAC name for it is polyphenylethene.

this is what ive got in my notes so i got confused in the trial when they refered to the other name...can someone explain pls?

PVC is a polymer made from the chloroethene monomer. Polystyrene is a polymer made from the ethenyl benzene monomer.

styrene has 2 systemcatic names, just remember both, i do anyways cos in multiple choice, they test one or the other so its good to know both.

systematic name for styrene = ethylbenzene or phenylethene
