Is soda water the common name for carbonic acid?

I've seen several books taking carbonic acid as "soda water"

Then in a prac. experiment, we measured "soda water" to be basic.

Can someone please clarify if the basic "soda-sound-alike" is actually Sodium Bicarbonate, and "soda water" is carbonic acid?

Thanks

Haha, ok cool. Damn the science preparation room, making practical sheets that say "soda water" and giving us bicarb soda >=[

Yea, wiki says you can make CO2 out of bicarb...But the science prep. room gave us just bicarb to pH test it. =\

I love SODA water. Drink it all the time.

But is it bad for you?

Well, it's acidic... But shouldn't matter too much, cuz there are buffer systems inside our bodies xDD

But just don't overdo it =\

see i always thought it was good for you.

I suppose 'carbonated' water isn't good for you, only the water part is?

It's not exactly great for teeth; it's even more not-exactly-great-for-teeth when there's sugar/flavourings in the mix (dental erosion by dissolution and damage of enamel due to acidity due to sugar/flavourings).

Bad for people with esophageal reflux; can cause gastroesophageal reflux disease, thinning of the squamous cell layer, dysplasia, voice changes, inflammation, and more.
Purportedly, good for people who want to watch their figure; somehow it makes them feel fuller, and supposedly that makes them eat less.

That's very careless of whoever prepared the chemicals; so, would you say that your entire practical was invalid?

Love to add that teeth (and bones, incidentally) are made of strong bases. Which is why acidic stuff are capable of dissolving them. Soda water, being slightly acidic, can dissolve teeth.

Brush yar teeth often:)

You can also make sodium hydroxide out of bicarb.

apparently my Geo teacher put a tooth in coca cola(carbonic acid) and left it for 4 days. It dissolved. <<<<<This is scary>>>>>>.

Yeah that was one of the old tests.

Try it. It does work.
