So what esters is everone making? =]

That's my friend's one for ethyl formate, but I'm doing ORANGE. =]

My class did pentyl ethanoate. Smelled like banana. I was impressed.

haha. half our class did one and half did the other. one of them smelt like banana so one of the kids stuck his finger and tasted it. reckoned it tasted like a banana paddle pop.

Um this thread is just a discussion, I guess.

Yeah they have the artificial taste too, but I'm not game to taste anything make in the lab. I don't trust it's cleanliness... >_>

Esters are fantastic. Fun and easy to make, and such a remarkable change from the starting materials! How something can go from smelling like vomit and alcohol to a sweet fruit is simply astounding!

All heil esters! Heil! Heil!

Back in high school I made the banana one. It was probably the most fun experiment to do and a great introduction to organic techniques.

And yeah they are pretty stable, generally.

Yeah I smelt the banana one from last year. Cool shit.

I'm excited about my orange though haha. Might be doing it next period actually.. that's in like.. 10 minutes. Yay.
