Esterification diagram: Bunsen burner or Hotplate? (1 Viewer)

What do we draw? Coz the only diagram I've come across is the Bunsen burner one, BUT isn't it better to use hot plate coz of the volatile reactants and products/ so how should we draw it thx

You can use either (I've seen both in exam solutions that were awarded marks). For your second Q, draw in boiling chips if you are using the Bunsen burner (this allows the reactants to heat evenly to prevent "spitting")

You can also draw a heating mantle to promote even heating of the entire reaction flask.

Also Bunsen burner will only heat one area of the flask if you don't place it in a water bath. Just as long as you're not heating the volatile reactants directly you should be fine.
