- Possible sources of contamination in this catchment. - Chemical tests available to determine levels and types of contaminants. - Physical and chemical processes used to purify water. - Chemical additives in the water and the reasons for the presence of these additives. 1. What's the best way to convey this information in report text type? 2. How would you link sources of contamination to tests perfomd to purification methods? (in terms of identifying trends, patterns and relationships as well as contradictions in data and information). And how exactly would you use a cause and effet relationship to explain such phenomena? (any examples?) 3. Is it simply called the "Sydney Water Catchment Area" for all NSW residents? Or are they separate for each local area? 4. Are there any good flow charts (chemical and physical tests), scientific drawings/photographs, and chemical equations? If so, where's a good starting point? And overall, anything REALLY IMPORTANT I should remember? Thanks so much guys! |

Today, 9:15 PM ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Local town water supply dotpoint! 1. Best to do in a report form. 2. Contaminants could be Agricultural, Industrial or Urban sources; e.g. fertilizers, untreated sewage. There are 3 main stages in purifying drinking water: Stage 1: -removal of particulate matter -screening -flocculation & sedimentation -filtration Stage 2: -inactivation of microbes -chlorination Stage 3: -pH adjustment -fluoridation 3. Sydney's water supply is made of 5 main catchments: Warragamba, Woronora, Upper Nepean, Shoalhaven and Blue Mountains. 4. There are good flow charts in textbooks like Conquering Chemistry or Jacaranda. Hope this website helps: HSC Chemistry - Home
