Neglected dotpoint?!

You can hide this advertisement by registering.
Research a practising Australian chemist. Provide the industry or area in which this chemist works and the branch of chemistry in which he or she is involved.

I understand that you have to outline the work of a chemist and explain how identified chemical principles are relevant to their work but I haven't found specific examples in Dotpoint or my chem textbooks. Does it necessarily have to be a real life example or is it like the question 'identify your local catchment area and methods to purify/sanitise drinking water' where you can just make up an example and provide the general chemistry.

Who has written notes for this dotpoint? Help is greatly appreciated as I cannot be screwed to research a particular practising Australian chemist!
I was just shocked to find the question "identify a practising Australian scientist you have studied and describe his/her work" in the 2005 CSSA trial...who would ask that? lol

Re: Neglected dotpoint?!

Well, you pretty much don't get examined on it in the actual HSC exam.
Apparently it's never really been asked.

I wouldn't gamble on it. I know they've asked questions in physics about rocket pioneers and I know the stuff can be really anoying and boring. But the good thing is that these questions usually have a really flexible criteria. If you can say a few things about what they did and show some understanding of their work, you'll get your 3/3 or 4/4.

I havn't actually dont this dot point. Might do it soon and get back to this thread.

Good thing you mentioned this.

Aha, i must've missed this thread.

I've done this dot point - it's the 1st dot point in Chemical Monitoring so you can't really miss it. I just did some random people who work at ANSTO from memory

Somewhere around start of Chem monitoring/managment

oh and we got it in our trial.
caught a lot of people off guard.

Took the words right out of my mouth. I just did that paper last week haha.
My school made us learn about some guy who brewed beer... cool job, but not so explicitly chemistry related...

Re: Neglected dotpoint?!

I actually did my grandmother and my grandfather. She's an industrial chemist specialising in the Haber Process and he's an electrochemical engineer who works on alternative fuel sources as a consultant. Its a quick dot point.

Re: Neglected dotpoint?!

to whoever said its never been done, alot of the times, that means its more likely to be in a paper as a curveball question to seperate out band 5s form band 6s.
OT, will they check if the person actually exists??? cos iif not then Im gonna gamble on this one, and just make it up on the spot in the small chance its on the exam.
