An aligned mark of 70 in chemistry last year would have put you in the bottom 30% of the state. Despite this, your scaled mark (50/100) would have been about average. If anything, you'd expect the scaled mark to have been lower. At the end of the day, if you think any of this doesn't sound quite right, it probably means that the estimate of the aligned mark isn't quite right. Most people struggle to estimate aligned marks, including those who post on this site. It's very difficult to do it accurately.
