I'm trying to identify the type of spectra that is emitted from a quasar for an assignment. According to my textbook quasars emit the emission spectra. I just havn't been able to find a satisfactory explanation as to why this is. I was of the opinion that quasars emitted all wavelengths of em radiation.

What I really need is something explained like "Quasars emit the emission spectra because...."

Try these two sites. They are very interesting and the second one, especailly says why there is a continuous spectrum.
