to get you started consider beadle and tate, where they hypothesised one gene codes for one enzyme (changed to one enzyme one polypeptide) which has changed our understanding of how genes direct the structure and function of cells

also consider the impact the HGP has had, showing that there are only around 25,000 genes rather then the 100,000+ initially estimated. this showed that genes must act in combinations or sequences to account for the large amounts of traits present in the human poulation.

then talk about gene casades etc and the evidence to support this

thats really rough but it should point you in the right direction i hope
