gene therapy HELP!

You can hide this advertisement by registering.
I don't get how can gene therapy cure AIDS, isn't AIDS a viral disease? why it says that AIDS are resulted from damage to genes?

Also, what is the relationship between recombinant DNA technology and gene therapy?

It says that 'researchers only need to remove the disease-causing genes from the virus and insert recombinant genes that can correct the patient's disorder'.

Does it mean that only by recombinant DNA technology is gene therapy made possible?

Thanks in advance =)
