Re: Soil Erosion-Help me!!

Put simply, when there is vegetation it stablise the soil from erosion (from wind and rain), however when the vegetation is removed, the soil looses its stability and protection from natural forces (wind and water).

So basically vegetation acts as a shelter for soil, once it is removed, the soil is subjected to more erosion.

Set out: Period, Millions of years ago, Major events.

Pre-cambrian (4500 mya) - Simple organisms diversify in the sea. Origin of primative life.
Cambrian (600 mya) - Evolution of invertebrates with hard skeletons.
Ordovician (500 mya) - Evolution of vertebrates.
Silurian (450 mya) - Evolution of land plants.
Devonian (405 mya) - Vertebrates colonise the land.
Carboniferous (345 mya) - Reptiles evolve to breed on land. Flight evolves in insects.
Permian (280 mya) - Abundant life on land and in oceans.
Triassic (230 mya) - Small dinosaurs appear. Mammals evolve.
Jurassic (181 mya) - Birds evolve.
Cretaceous (135 mya) - Pacental mammals appear. Huge Dinosaurs dominate the land.
Tertiary (12 mya) - Ancestral humans evolve. Flowering plants dominate.
Quaternary (2 mya) - Human civillisation dominates. Flowering plants diversify.

Hope that helps you
