Re: relational database

Most text books have examples of relational databases in comparison to flat file ones.

It's basically a simple task of arranging common fields into tables to avoid data redundancy. Then you form relationships.

But once again, text books have good examples.

Re: relational database

I guess I can use this thread to ask for help too. I'm in a similar situation with the relational database, but I won't be starting that yet. I'm more in need of help of where to start for my 'scenario' given.

Scenario:

Students are to design a relational database for a gymnasium. The current way of doing things is via cards and filing cabinets.

Must have atleast 3 tables, 15 fields and use 5 data types.

Design and build a database which will make updated class lists and allow merging of letters to members or instructors.

You must have a switchboard.

I'm just looking for ideas for the first couple of things needed for 'week 1 marking' of the assignment(marked each week, then marked at the end):

Purpose of system, Diagrammatic view of system, Gantt Chart, Context Diagram.

Any idea for this stuff^.

Thanks
