Then you probably shouldn't end them. If you think the poem/s is complete with out a traditional ending, leave it as is. Even if you think it may be better with an 'ending', leave it a couple weeks and come back to it and see if it can work with an abrupt ending. Poetry is good like that Even if your teacher says it needs endings and sends it back, remember it is still your work and so long as you at least allude to the varied style in your reflection, you should be covered.

what an interesting suggestion... i was planning on doing that for one of my poems.. where the fact that it didnt end and that it was to extend throughout the entire EE2 course and not have an ending ....was to be symbolic of the theme that the poem was representing...

maybe i could do that for all my poems... I mean i don't have one single poem that has an ending... and some of those poems have been lying around for over 3 months now... (not unattended of course...)...

my teacher doesn't really say anything... i think we're teaching him about the course more than he's teaching us... not that he's not a good teacher or anything it's just that he's never really had the chance to teach the course before...

but once again thanks for ur suggestion...

im not sure i have any sort of drafts or anything, i'm just writing...and writing...and writing, although i have eased off because half-yearlies are coming up. but still, i might have enough for as many as 3 major works, i just have to pick the ones i think are the best and then arrange them into a nice pattern that works. although i am still writing more, so nothing is set in stone yet.

i think i'll only know what goes into my major work when the time comes that it is imperative that i hand it in, but im pretty sure of around a dozen of mine that are going in one way or another (i think maybe 18 poems will just about account for the word limit)

but yeah, i know what your saying physician, sometimes you can be at a loss as to how you're going to end a poem, and yeah, coming back after a long time sometimes works. or you can even re-arrange the structure of the poem to create a feeling of closure in it, i dunno, thats all i can really offer, im sorry

Don't worry too much, I'm in the same boat... I still haven't really done all of my first drafts yet either... my teacher says they're too dark and that I should lighten up, ha! Little does he know that most poetry comes from dark places, atleast with me... what about you guys? Where do you get your inspiration?

Always glad to offer a suggestion, I love writing poetry and the writing process in general.

lol, and as for the 'dark' stuff, you should do a creative writing course at uni, the dark stuff always draws the best responses.

I did ext 2 during my HSC, now I'm a uni student, doing a teaching degree, major specialisation is english, lol, so you could say I enjoy the subject. Last year I did two creative writing courses for my degree, so I'm happy to help out if anyone wants a second or third opinion on a piece.

i think poetry is perhaps a means to explain that which is inexplicable, hence it seems as though inspiration can present itself literally anywhere that you can find, but my whole concept is a study of music, hence mine are mostly drawn from there, though it seems the possibilities and muses are endless. However, it might be noted that some muses are perhaps more popular than others, hence some become a little bit over-used. Personally, ive felt i've always had to be careful in writing ones that are dark, or angst-related, largely due to the fact it is difficult to avoid slipping into these kind of trite expressions. It might be the same in describing feelings of love and affection, and things in relation to that. just thoughts really, im not really one to say what is and what isnt.

I'm only doing one English class this sem, Renaissance Drama, lol, the only poems I'm writing now are, well, quirky, I think is the best way they've been described... oh the joys of not writing with the threat of marking over you

I don't really write drafts either... I usually organise ideas in my head, then maybe think up a few lines to get started... This is hard though, and takes time... Two and a half weeks and I've written three stanzas which I'll actually use. With another poem I've tried a bit of automatic writing, which I might edit and form into something decent.

I'm thinking of changing it into a short story with a bit of poetry involved actually, since I don't think I'll be able to write enough within the time limit... So far I haven't even finished one poem.
